You know the plot already, or can at least abercrombie and fitch predict its moves: Jason Vorhees (Caleb Guss) is a retarded/disfigured kid living with his mom at Camp Crystal Lake who, during a 1980-set prologue that spoils the original film's twist, watches his cosseting psycho parent (Nana Visitor) get decapitated by a teenage girl who dared bully her little boy. 30 years later, the adult Jason (Derek Mears) now stalks the abandoned holiday resort, slaughtering teenagers as his crackpot mother commanded before she abercrombie and fitch died, delivered a steady stream of boisterous louts and buxom lovelies to penetrate with his signature machete.
The opening 20-minutes are a dim abercrombie and fitch highlight, with a group of teenage friends arriving at the lake for a night of drinking, drugs and sex, as one shares the urban myth of mummy's boy Jason to creep the others out. The resulting attack from their invoked boogieman gives these sequences a nightmarish edge, helped by a few memorable kills (particularly a girl being strung up inside a abercrombie and fitch sleeping bag, dangled over a campfire.) It has a pace, attitude and psychological bedrock that the rest of the movie never gets close to besting. Following this sequence, a fresh batch of two-dimensional meat-bags arrive for a weekend of hedonism, along with loner abercrombie and fitch Clay (Jared Padalecki*), a young man trying to find his missing sister Whitney (Amanda Righetti) from the preceding massacre.

Abercrombie & Fitch is Smelly. Ew.
The ONLY shorts my husband will wear are from abercrombie and fitch. (y'know...the cargo/khaki shorts that seem to be on every guy all summer long). Today he went to the mall all by himself, which is a big deal in itself, but that's another story not worth telling.
He got home and showed me his purchases, then handed the shorts to me so that I can take out the drawstrings that he hates. The scent of their stupid cologne blind-sided me. Do you know that they actually pump that abercrombie and fitch shit out of misters in the ceiling all day long? Gggguuuuhhhh-ross.
I can't imagine working there. I mean, when the abercrombie and fitch store first opened here, I liked the smell. Now it's just abused. I think working there would match right up with working at McDonald's, abercrombie and fitch and smelling like grease. Or working at Tim Horton's and smelling like a bagel bakery.

Same-store sales plummet at Abercrombie & Fitch
abercrombie and fitch (NYSE: ANF) announced on Thursday that its same-store sales plummeted 29% in August. These results were worse than the expected drop of 23.9%.
Sales in all of its divisions were worse than expected, with sales at the abercrombie and fitch flagship store plunging 26%. Sales dropped 32% at Hollister, 37% at Ruehl (which will close at the year's end), and 26% at the company's children's retail outlet.
ANF is also going to face quite a hurdle abercrombie and fitch with the holiday shopping season approaching. Will parents be willing to drop $85 for a sweater, or nearly $100 for a pair of jeans for their kids? Some will , but I'm guessing that many won't. The same thing with the back-to-school shopping season abercrombie and fitch -- how many parents are willing to pay $35 for a t-shirt because it says Hollister? Again, some will, but I bet many won't. Will the stock be able to withstand further same-store sales disappointments? We could soon find out.
ANF opened at $31.30 this morning, about 2% lower than Wednesday's closing price. The biggest danger for the stock is a technical hurdle that it recently cleared but will now have to face again. Shares of the retailer were relying on the support of their 10-month moving average, but this trendline should now be in a position to act as resistance. This fact doesn't mean that the stock is doomed for failure, but resistance isn't exactly what abercrombie and fitch can use right now. The stock had actually put together a nice little run starting early in the year, but that could now come to an end.

Abercrombie Amendment Threatens Guam Buildup
Guam-- An amendment to the 2010 Defense Authorization abercrombie and fitch requiring higher wages for jobs linked to Guam's pending military buildup would put the multi-billion dollar plan at risk, Secretary of the Navy Ray Mabus told a Hawaiian newspaper Friday.

In this retail environment, where consumers selectively scour for bargains, it is tempting for retailers to reduce prices in order to drive sales and reduce inventory. One company bucking this trend is cheap abercrombie and fitch (ANF), whose stated number one priority through this downturn is to "protect the brands". By holding prices steady while competitors discount, management hopes cheap abercrombie and fitch emerges from the recession as a superior brand that consumers are willing to pay a premium for.
Is this a good strategy? Only time will tell. In a sense, however, it is a riskier strategy, as short-term earnings are sacrificed in exchange for a future benefit of uncertain magnitude. Same-store sales are down a staggering 30% year over year, as consumer preferences have shifted towards cheaper brands. Despite the large sales drop, inventories are running some 15% above what they were at this time last year, which is undoubtedly contributing to the fact that the company has had to increase its debt load from $43 million one year ago to its current level of $157 million.
But the company appears poised to be able to weather the economic storm. cheap abercrombie and fitch is still profitable despite the huge drop in sales thanks to its massive gross margins: buying apparel items manufactured in Asia and South America and selling them in North America for many times their cost has proven very fruitful for many companies which appeal to the fashion-conscious, and that's not likely to change.

While we have seen that evenhealthy retailers have been able to renegotiate their leases lower, abercrombie and fitch the sheer magnitude of ANF's future lease obligations ($2.8 billion, larger than the company's market cap!) cannot be ignored. Nevertheless, the company does have room to reduce prices and increase short-term profits should this happen.

Abercrombie Still Lacks Sex Appeal
When the economy nosedived, Abercrombie & Fitch's (NYSE:ANF) stock cratered, like those of many other retailers. But it's well off its lows now, and some think that trendy retailers could be the place to invest given the economic rebound. Even if that's true, I'm not so certain that Abercrombie is the best company for this type of play.
The Cons
In a sense, I really like abercrombie and fitch because it offers nice clothes, what is arguably some of the most head-turning advertising I've ever seen, and because it has a nice store layout. However, from an investment standpoint I'm not as impressed.
One reason is that the stock has had a pretty sizable run since June and I think we could see some profit taking soon. Of course, abercrombie and fitch isn't in this boat by itself, as many other retailers have had a nice run over the last couple of months, including popular department stores JC Penney (NYSE:JCP) and Macy's (NYSE:M). I actually think that those two stocks are susceptible now, too.
Beyond the recent run up, I'm also concerned with the big multiple of expected earnings it trades at. The company is expected to earn 87 cents a share this year and $1.52 next. In other words, it trades at 37 times this year's estimate and right around 21 times next year's estimate, which I think seems way too expensive. Frankly, I'd like to have a little more in the way of evidence that next year's estimate is actually feasible before pulling the trigger. If the stock were to drop back to the low to mid $20s I might change my mind too.
It's important to note that abercrombie and fitch is expected to release its second-quarter results later in the week. The consensus estimate is for the company to lose 6 cents per share. To be crystal clear, I don't have a feel as to whether the company will meet that expectation, but I'm pretty sure I won't be too excited if it generates an EPS loss. That said, I am turned off because it appears as though the estimate for the quarter has been ratcheted lower over the last month. The estimate was for a loss of 3 cents a share 30 days ago; it's now a 6-cent loss. That is obviously not the direction investors want to see estimates heading.
The Flip Side?
For what it's worth, earlier in the month retailer American Eagle (NYSE:AEO) upped its outlook for the second quarter. Gap (NYSE:GPS) also said it now expects second-quarter earnings to range from 30 cents to 32 cents, above the 28-cents-per-share consensus view. Might this be a harbinger of things to come for abercrombie and fitch? Maybe, but even if Abercrombie were to beat estimates, it's tough to get tremendously excited. After all, its comps sales in July were off a pretty steep 28%, which suggests there's lots of room for improvement.
Bottom Line
abercrombie and fitch advertising may be a huge head turner, but its stock is not. Given that the stock is trading at a high multiple of expected earnings, and given the recent run up in the share price, I plan on steering clear of the shares heading into the earnings announcement. Abercrombie & Fitch July Same-store Sales
(RTTNews) – Apparel retailer abercrombie and fitch. (ANF: News ) said Thursday that its same-store sales fell 28% in July, as consumers continued to reign in spending amid the recession.
Net sales for the four-week period ended August 1, 2009 fell 22% to $236.0 million from $303.1 million for the four-week period ended August 2, 2008.
Total company direct-to-consumer net sales for the month decreased 11% to $16.2 million.
For July, abercrombie and fitch
same-store sales declined 25%, while abercrombie and fitch same-store sales fell 27% and Hollister Co. same-store sales dropped 32%. RUEHL same-tore sales dipped 28%.

For the quarter-to-date period, same-store sales fell 30% and net sales decreased 23% to $648.5 million. Analysts polled by Thomson Reuters expected the company to post revenue of $647.98 million for the second quarter. Year-to-date same-store sales fell 30% and net sales decreased 23% to $1.26 billion.
At the end of the quarter, the company operated 350 Abercrombie & Fitch stores, 210 abercrombie stores, 510 Hollister Co. stores, 29 RUEHL stores and 16 Gilly Hicks stores in the United States. The company also operated 3 Abercrombie & Fitch stores, 3 abercrombie stores and 5 Hollister Co. stores in Canada, and 1 abercrombie and fitch store and 5 Hollister Co. stores in the United Kingdom.
U.S. retailers reported their eleventh straight monthly sales decline in July. Retailer gave several reasons for weak sales, including rising unemployment, cooler weather and a lack of tax-free holidays.
American Eagle Outfitters Inc. (AEO) said Thursday that its same-store sales fell 11% in July, while its net sales for the month declined 8% to $215.0 million.
Gap Inc. (GPS) on Thursday reported an 8% drop in same-store sales and 7% decline in net sales for the month of July. The company also provided earnings outlook for the second quarter above analysts’ consensus estimate.
abercrombie and fitch shares are currently trading at $30.85, up 84 cents or 2.80%. The shares are trading in a 52-week range of $13.66 to $56.42.

ABERCROMBIE & GLITCH,Asian Americans rip retailer for stereotypes on T-shirts
Days after hitting store shelves, new Abercrombie & Fitch T-shirts featuring caricatured faces with slanted eyes and rice-paddy hats had Asian Americans in the Bay Area and beyond demanding a public apology from the retailer.

The Midwestern clothier, which targets the young, affluent and active, said it was surprised by the mounting controversy over the T-shirt designs.
One has a slogan that says, "Wong Brothers Laundry Service -- Two Wongs Can Make It White." Beside the prominent lettering are two smiling figures in conical hats harking back to 1900s popular-culture depictions of Chinese men.
"We personally thought Asians would love this T-shirt," said Hampton Carney,
with Paul Wilmot Communications in New York, the public relations firm where Abercrombie referred a reporter's call.
"I wouldn't know how they could think that," said Austin Chung, 23, of Palo Alto, business manager for the quarterly Asian-focused magazine Monolid. "Abercrombie & Fitch is producing popular culture, and they cater to the views of the majority. You have to ask yourself, who benefits, who gets empowerment, from these kinds of images? It denigrates Asian men."
As word of the new T-shirts in Abercrombie stores spread yesterday among university students and on far-reaching e-mail lists, plans shaped up for a late-night meeting in a Stanford dorm lounge.
The subject: What to do about the series of themed T-shirts the retailer -- known for edgy advertising and skin-bearing advertising -- introduced Friday in stores and on its Web site, www.abercrombie.com.
"Wok-N-Bowl -- Let the Good Times Roll -- Chinese Food & Bowling," one design reads, with a stereotypical image similar to the figures on the Wong Brothers shirt.
"Abercrombie and Fitch Buddha Bash -- Get Your Buddha on the Floor," reads another shirt that shares display space in the youth-oriented, casual-clothing store.
'TRULY AND DEEPLY SORRY'
The shirts were designed to appeal to young Asian shoppers with a sense of humor, Carney told The Chronicle yesterday.
The shirts were available for sale yesterday in the Abercrombie store at San Francisco Shopping Centre on Market Street. Whether they will remain on the shelves was unclear yesterday, the spokesman said.
"We are truly and deeply sorry we've offended people," said Carney, adding that he had spent much of the afternoon returning calls of complaint, many of them from Stanford students.
"We never single out any one group to poke fun at," Carney said. "We poke fun at everybody, from women to flight attendants to baggage handlers, to football coaches, to Irish Americans to snow skiers. There's really no group we haven't teased."
Abercrombie might consider rethinking that approach when marketing to -- or representing images of -- racial and ethnic groups, said Michael Chang, vice chairman of Stanford's Asian American Students' Association, organizers of last night's meeting on campus.
"It's really misleading as to what Asian people are," Chang said. "The stereotypes they depict are more than a century old. You're seeing laundry service. You're seeing basically an entire religion and philosophy being trivialized."
abercrombiea and fitch should apologize publicly, starting with a message from corporate headquarters, Chang said.
The Asian students' association at Stanford yesterday was encouraging calls to the company.
EVEN STORE MANAGER SURPRISED
Chang said Stanford students who complained to individual Bay Area store managers quickly realized that was futile because the merchandise decisions were being made at a higher level.
Stanford senior BJ Lee, 21, said one store manager acknowledged even he had been surprised when the T-shirts arrived at his store.
"We tried to get them pulled, but we weren't successful," Lee said. "Managers don't have authority."
The online chat about Abercrombie doesn't stop at Stanford.
"This story is going around the whole Asian e-mail circle," said Kevin Choi,
a 21-year-old student at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, who said the chorus of angry voices was growing at MIT and near the campus. Some students organized public protests in front of Abercrombie stores, he said.
"I think they need to apologize, to make a public statement, but I also think they need to start looking at their whole strategy for how they portray people," Choi said. "Maybe it sells in the suburbs . . . but their whole national marketing image is buff, tanned male and female models without any Asian representation."
Last year, Abercrombie & Fitch caught flak from some activist groups, and even state governments, for what they viewed as sexually suggestive advertising campaigns and catalog photos.
Sometimes that kind of publicity can help a retailer more than it hurts, said retail analyst Jennifer Black with Wells Fargo Securities in Portland, Ore.
"In all honesty, I think the controversy (over sexually charged advertising) is kind of a marketing thing -- the teens love it," and they're crucial to Abercrombie's customer base, Black said.
But pushing controversial racial or ethnic depictions is different, said Black, who added that the best damage control might be "to come out with an immediate apology."
COMPANY TO DISCUSS RESPONSE
Carney said company executives would discuss a formal response today to the complaints they had received. He said he did not know how many of the T- shirts had been distributed or whether they had reached stores in all regions yet.
"They're part of a fashion line that moves in and out of stores," he said.
abercrombie and fitch, a company that started with one small New York City outdoors store and factory in 1892, sold $1.36 billion worth of upscale clothing, accessories, shoes and related casual merchandise in the fiscal year that ended in February. The heavily mall-based retailer has headquarters in Columbus, Ohio.

Summary of the Settlement of the abercrombie and fitch Class Action Lawsuit
On April 14, 2005, Judge Susan Illston of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California granted final approval to a settlement of the class action lawsuit Gonzalez v. abercrombie and fitch. The settlement requires the retail clothing giant to pay $50 million, less attorneys' fees and costs, to Latino, African American, Asian American and female applicants and employees who charged the company with discrimination.
The settlement also requires the company to institute a range of policies and programs to promote diversity among its workforce and to prevent discrimination based on race or gender. Abercrombie & Fitch Co. is a clothing retailer marketing to young adults, teenagers and children. It employs over 22,000 employees, most of whom are college-age adults, in over 700 stores throughout the United States.
Ongoing Consent Decree Governs Abercrombie's Employment Practices into at Least 2009
The Consent Decree (settlement agreement) contains provisions related to the recruitment, hiring, job assignment, training, and promotion of abercrombie and fitch, Hollister, and abercrombie kids employees. The Decree is effective immediately, pursuant to the Court's order. An appointed Monitor will regularly evaluate and report on Abercrombie’s compliance with the provisions in the Consent Decree. These provisions include:
* "Benchmarks" for hiring and promotion of women, Latinos, African Americans, and Asian Americans. These benchmarks are goals, rather than quotas, and Abercrombie will be required to report on its progress toward these goals at regular intervals;
* A prohibition on targeting fraternities, sororities, or specific colleges for recruitment purposes;
* Advertising of available positions in publications targeting minorities of both genders;
* A new Office and Vice President of Diversity, responsible for reporting to the CEO on abercrombie and fitch progress toward fair employment practices (the Office has already been created, and the VP has been hired and begun work);
* The hiring of 25 recruiters who will focus on and seek women and minority employees. (At least 24 of the 25 have already been hired, and are working.);
* Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) and Diversity Training for all employees with hiring authority;
* Revision of Performance Evaluations for managers, making progress toward diversity goals a factor in their bonuses and compensation;
* A new internal complaint procedure; and
* Abercrombie marketing materials will reflect diversity by including members of minority racial and ethnic groups.
In addition, Abercrombie created a $40 million Settlement Fund for distribution to individual class members. Abercrombie will also pay attorneys' fees and costs associated with monitoring compliance during the time that the Consent Decree is in effect (4.5 to 6 years from Final Approval, depending on Abercrombie’s progress). Navy Sec.: Abercrombie Amendment Threatens Guam Buildup
Guam-- An amendment to the 2010 Defense Authorization Act requiring higher wages for jobs linked to Guam's pending military buildup would put the multi-billion dollar plan at risk, Secretary of the Navy Ray Mabus told a Hawaiian newspaper Friday.
House and Senate lawmakers are deliberating on a final defense bill to send to the president's desk and the implications of the amendment, introduced by Rep. Neil abercrombie and fitch (D-HI) are at issue in the talks.
abercrombie and fitch amendment would also limit the number of foreign laborers that could fill jobs created by the buildup. However, Mabus says the provisions could put plans for the relocation of 8,000 Marines to Guam from Okinawa, Japan, in jeopardy.
"It's no secret that we oppose his amendment to do that," abercrombie and fitch said Mabus. "For one thing, we don't think we
can afford to make the move if that happens."
Mabus is scheduled to arrive on Guam tomorrow for meetings with military and GovGuam officials.

Meanwhile, competitors such as Aeropostale Inc. and American Eagle Outfitters Inc., with their emphasis on low prices and basics, have fared better.
Sales in stores open at least on year, or so-called same-store sales, fell 28 percent in July, 32 percent in June and 28 percent in May.
The company said it was shuttering its high-priced Ruehl line of handbags and apparel in a move expected to be complete in January 2010. New Albany, Ohio-based Abercrombie also operates surf-themed Hollister, abercrombie, its store for children, and Gilly Hicks, an intimate apparel line.
BY THE NUMBERS: Analysts polled by Thomson Reuters, on average, predict a loss of 7 cents per share on revenue of $647.9 million. The company said, according to a preliminary tally, sales fell 23 percent to $648.5 during the quarter.
ANALYST TAKE: In a note to investors, RBC Capital Markets analyst Howard Tubin said in a client note Tuesday lowering price points and offering more "current-season" fashion in stores are encouraging acts, but he said it will take more of an effort for results to improve.
"We remain on the sidelines with respect to the shares until we see significant newness offered within the assortments across all concepts," wrote Tubin, who rates the company "Average Risk."
Stifel Nicolaus analyst Richard Jaffe wrote in a note to investors that he expects a loss of 3 cents per share, with weak women's apparel offerings and the recession holding back results.
"On a positive note we believe management has demonstrated better inventory management, which bodes well for the second half and we believe that the markdown cadence will likely be more effective going forward (shallower markdowns taken throughout the quarter instead of deep clearance activity at the end of the quarter)," he wrote.
WHATS AHEAD: Analysts will be looking for any indication about how back-to-school sales are doing, an update on closing Ruehl stores and any indications about how the company is planning for the upcoming holiday season.
STOCK PERFORMANCE: Shares rose 13 percent during the three months ended Aug. 1.
